Edward M. Wheeler

Edward (“Ned”) Wheeler is the President and Chief Operating Officer of FBR Asset Management Holdings, Inc, which is the parent of FBR Fund Advisers, Inc., FBR Investment Services, Inc., and FBR Investment Management, Inc.
Mr. Wheeler’s background includes 20 years of investment management and analysis experience. He was previously the Managing Director of the FBR Merchant Banking Department (“Merchant Banking”) where he successfully managed Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group, Inc’s (“FBR”) portfolio of equity and fund investments. During Mr. Wheeler’s tenure as Managing Director of Merchant Banking from June 2002 through June 2005, the firm’s Merchant Banking equity and bridge loan investments generated net realized gains and dividend income exceeding $130mm.
Prior to assuming responsibility for the firm’s principal investing activities, Mr. Wheeler was a Portfolio Manager and Managing Director for three FBR sponsored private equity partnerships and held multiple associated Board of Director positions.
Before managing these partnerships, Mr. Wheeler held dual roles as a Managing Director for the firm’s Investment Banking and Private Equity departments. During 1994 and 1995, Mr. Wheeler ran the firm’s high yield trading and research desk. Prior to this position, he was a Senior Analyst for special situations. Mr. Wheeler joined FBR in 1989 becoming a junior analyst for banks and thrifts and in 1991 an analyst focusing on mortgage banking, real estate, and specialty finance companies.
Mr. Wheeler has served on charitable boards including the Board of the Washington Performing Arts Society, Charity Works, and The Wine Advocate Fund for Philanthropy. He has also been a member of the University of Virginia T100.
Mr. Wheeler received a B.A. in economics from the University of Virginia and holds series 7, 24, 63, and 53 licenses.
