Diversified Industrials Expertise

FBR's Diversified Industrials Investment Banking and Research groups cover aerospace & defense, capital goods, electrical products, engineering & construction, government IT, multi-industry & electrical equipment and specialty contracting.

Diversified industrials is an area in which research plays a critical role for our clients, and we offer what we believe to be the most comprehensive defense, aerospace, government IT and homeland security coverage in the industry. Most importantly, as a Washington, D.C. metropolitan area firm, FBR brings an on-the-ground perspective to its government-related research.

Additionally, FBR’s Washington Policy Analysis group provides a vital regulatory and legislative overlay to our company analysis – particularly in the homeland security, environmental services, defense and defense electronics industries. The businesses of companies in these industries tend to be impacted by shifts in federal policy and spending, and the Washington Policy group has valuable access to the thinking of those who help shape the legislative agenda.

Investment Banking

In 2006, the Diversified Industrials group acted as a joint book-running manager for a $165 million follow-on offering for MasTec, Inc., a leading specialty communications and utility contractor; sole managed a $126 million private placement for a manufacturer of electrical wire and cable products; sole managed a $346 million private placement for a manufacturer of satellite communications systems for the Department of Defense and acted as financial advisor to the Special Committee of WCA Waste Corporation.

Institutional Brokerage

With a substantial team of brokers, traders and sales traders, FBR was, as of June 30, 2011, a market-maker or trader in more than 1,570 equity and debt securities and provided independent research on more than 420 companies representing 25% of the S&P 500 by market capitalization.
