Financial Institutions Expertise

Financial institutions is historically a core area of FBR Capital Markets’ expertise. In 2008, we continued to be ranked the #1 book-running manager of all common stock offerings, including private placements, for U.S. financial services companies with a market capitalization of $1 billion or less.1 Our investment banking professionals cover regulated depositary institutions – banks, thrifts and savings and loan companies – along with specialty real estate investment trusts and specialty finance companies.

FBR Capital Markets' Mergers & Acquisitions team, which serves both buyers and sellers and provides restructuring advice, completed eight advisory assignments in 2006, and we have over the past two years raised $1.4 billion in permanent investment capital for specialty finance companies through sole-managed Rule 144A private placements. In 2007, we expanded financial institutions research and investment banking coverage in London for the U.K. and European markets.

Our Financial Institutions Research team, which publishes specialized and overview reports in addition to its company-specific analyses, is one of the best in the business, distinguished both by the quality of its work and the breadth of coverage across industry sub-sectors. Additionally, our Washington Policy Analysis group plays an important role in anticipating and interpreting the impact of the Congress and the regulatory agencies on the financial institutions sector.
